So, how does VoIP really work?
In a nutshell, it converts the sound waves of your voice to digital packets of information,
which are then relayed over the Internet, decoded, and then broadcast through the
handset, or headset of the recipient of your call, all on the fly in real time.
It can take several routes: phone to phone, PC to PC, phone to PC, or PC to phone
- it does not matter what type of phone you are calling to, including mobile phones.
However, you may need some equipment - either an IP-enabled phone, a device to convert
your existing analog phone, or use of your PC. You will need high-speed dedicated
internet access, as well.
Then you are ready to dial - and save!
